
The qualification is designed for learners wishing to create collaborative solutions for people in the Film Production discipline. It is learner-centred and offers the ability for students to construct their own understanding of theory and practice from a uniquely personal perspective. The qualification aims to meet contemporary and future workplace demands of employers and industries. These entities require flexible problem solvers who can lead, manage and collaborate in order to create people-centred solutions that have a positive impact on people and communities whilst remaining sustainable, financially viable and profitable.
PROGRAMME OVERVIEW
The Film Production major targets students with a passion for film making and aims to produce graduates capable of creating footage to be deployed on a variety of media. Students will create films that engage the audience as well as seek more understanding of themselves and others in order to become better visual storytellers. They will be dedicated to their own personal journey and engagement in order to create films that connect with themselves and the wider audience.
YEAR 1
This course aims to introduce an overview of sociology and media studies as personal lenses to understand the social world and interpret media messages.
This course aims to introduce an overview of art history and practical experiences of digital image construction in order to explore art and design theory.
This course aims to introduce learners to cinematic and visual storytelling theories and concepts applied to production projects.
YEAR 2
This course aims to enhance and develop humanities-based research competencies using critical thinking and problem solving skills applied to a personal auto-ethnography study.

Beyond Film
Motion picture content is a compelling way to communicate ideas and owing to the prevalence of video and film content requirements, work is available in a variety of fields beyond Television and Film. More and more filming is occurring for education purposes and other non-mainstream media uses. Many independent filmmakers set up their own studios to create films and other footage for advertising or other corporate clients.
Academic Entry
Successfully gained University Entrance or equivalent, with credits in relevant subjects, applicants will be expected to submit a portfolio of work for selection. International students will be expected to have attained NZCEL L4—Academic or equivalent (IELTS 6.0—Academic overall with no band lower than 5.5).
Credit Value and Programme Duration
The programme is a 360 credit or three-academic year course-of-study.
